Reach Records founder Lecrae revealed that he and his team lost one of their tour dates this spring after sharing an honest tweet about deconstructing from “politicized” and “corporatized” modern church culture.
“Once upon a time I thought I was done with Christianity. But the reality was I was just done with the institutional, corporatized, gentrified, politicized, culturally exclusive version of it,” the popular emcee tweeted on Tuesday.

The following day, Lecrae re-shared his tweet and wrote: “Just lost a show because of this tweet. Point proven.”
The Grammy award-winning artist added: “Vulnerability gets people kicked out of exclusive tribes. Jesus welcomes the outcast and seeks to bring healing.

Some prominent Christian figures have claimed in recent years that they are deconstructing Christianity entirely after having doubts about their faith. After being abused by fellow Christians in 2017, Lecrae admits that he had to do some soul searching.

He was on the verge of abandoning his Christian faith because of that season. The rapper, on the other hand, set out on a quest to rebuild his faith. His faith in Christ is now stronger than it has ever been.
“What sparked the post was that a couple people I know this year who have been professing Christians for years have decided they no longer claim Christianity,” Lecrae said of his recent “once upon a time” tweet to The Christian Post.
“I was just thinking to myself, ‘Man, I know how you feel.'” But sometimes we throw the baby out with the bathwater, and I just wanted to say, ‘Hey, I understand where you’re at, what you’re feeling.’ But sometimes the issue isn’t with the faith; it’s with the faith’s distortions,'” he added.
The Texas native is preparing for the “We Are Unashamed” Tour, which will take place across the country this spring.
According to Lecrae, “it was actually a tour date” that was canceled due to his comments on Christianity.

“It affected not only me, but all the artists on the tour,” he told CP.
Despite losing some fans, the entertainer claims that many others have contacted him to request a reschedule.
When asked why he thinks a Christian venue would dump him after his tweet, Lecrae said he thinks it’s because they have the wrong impression of him. He did not name the venue where his tour was canceled.
“I think people have a lot of preconceptions about me because of some of the things they’ve seen, which are really just rumors,” he explained. “There have been so many rumors about me that everything I post is interpreted as a confirmation of a rumor.”
When Lecrae was a featured performer at a “Get Out the Early Vote Rally & Concert” in Atlanta in December 2020, co-hosted by pro-choice Democrat Raphael Warnock during a contentious U.S. Senate election runoff, he drew a lot of flak. The following month, Warnock became Georgia’s first black senator. Lecrae stated that his performance at the event continues to have an impact to this day.

“Whether it’s because I’m supporting candidates they don’t like, which I’ve never publicly supported any candidate,” he explained, “whatever it is, they see anything I post as confirmation of a rumor they’ve heard rather than getting clarification from me.”
“You can definitely reach out to me for clarification,” Lecrae said to those who have specifically booked him for an event.
Despite the cancellation, Lecrae’s tweets have received 30,000 likes. Athletes and celebrities alike have lent their support to the cause.
Lecrae and his labelmate 1K Phew recently released a new album called No Church in a While. Lecrae assured that he still believes in the Church, despite his dissatisfaction with the institution of cultural Christianity.
“It doesn’t mean we don’t believe in church; it just means we’re acknowledging the conversations that have been going on, that people aren’t going [to church],” he said. “We wanted to talk about it and talk about some of the reasons why people feel that way, some of the reasons why we felt that way, and just have an honest dialogue in music,” she says. “Whether it’s because of the pandemic, whether they no longer want to go to that building or gathering.”

1K “Definitely reach people who don’t go to church, who don’t understand or can’t relate,” Phew and the label head say.
“This is affecting the community,” Lecrae explained. “There are a lot of people who don’t go for a variety of reasons, and we simply want to be a voice for them.”
Along with the announcement of the “We Are Unashamed Tour,” Lecrae and his band released a three-song EP of the same name.
“Three songs that represent what we are about at Reach Records,” the performer said. “We’re unashamed of the Gospel, the power of God for salvation,” says 116 [rap group].”
