Have you ever asked this question at some point in your life; should I drink water during my fast?’ Some Christians have found themselves too weary sometimes during their fasts, as a result, they relieve themselves with a bottle of water, only to begin to ask if they have broken their fasts.

Popular Pastor and Televangelist, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome gave a teaching on the controversial topic via his online teaching platform. The senior pastor of Believers’ Love World received a series of questions during one of his teaching sessions. One of the questions read, “is it okay for someone whose throat is dry during a fast to drink water, forasmuch as it doesn’t contain any real substance in it.”

According to Pastor Oyakhilome: “There are different kinds of fasts, there are fasts where you don’t want to eat or drink anything, that’s up to you and how the Spirit of God leads you at that particular point.

There are other kinds of fasts where you don’t want to see anybody, whereas at other times you could be fasting and still go to work. There are other fasts where you just want to stay away from TV, phones and other gadgets, so you’re the one who determines what kind of fast you want to have, depending on what you’re looking for.”

Pastor Oyakhilome continued by saying, “why are you fasting? That is what will determine the gravity and seriousness of your fast. It does not mean some fasts are more serious than others, it just depends on what you want to do and how your faith really works.

However, if it is a group fast organized by your fellowship or cell, then you must do the fast the way the group has decided for the fast to go. If the group decides to fast from the early hours of the morning to 1 pm, do it because you’re in a group, and you won’t die if you stayed away from water during that period.”
